My name is Nicholas Sanders and I have spent a week at Clear Books doing work experience. I’m 17 years old and in my second year of A-levels. I wanted to do my work experience at Clear Books as I thought it would be good to learn about a growing company, and what the different roles in a company involved. During my week I spent each day with a different team (Support, Design, Development, Sales and Marketing).

On my first day, which I spent with the support team, I was tasked to go over some the older help guides on the website and update them as well as improving other help guides by making them more understandable and easier to follow.

The next day I was with the design team. This involved doing quality assurance on the new website in order to ensure all the links were working properly as well as compiling a list of any aesthetic or graphic issues. I spent the third day with the development team which was similar to working with the design team, as I was checking to make sure everything in the software was working ok.

When working with the sales team I gained experience using spreadsheets by analysing competitors of Clear Books, recording their costs as well as what they offered their customers. I also made a number of charts to analyse the job performance of the people working in the sales team.

On my last day I worked with the marketing team. I did some research into our customers and the type of businesses they ran, particularly looking at their online presence, and entering this information into a spreadsheet.

My work experience was very helpful in giving me an idea of what it was like to be working in a modern business as well as a giving an insight into the range of the jobs in this type of business. Also by spending a day with each team I learnt how different teams cooperate together. I would like to thank Clear Books for the opportunity, and also thank the staff for being kind and helpful.
